Academic or General Training: choose the practice that matches your test

Keep shared skills together while using the correct Reading and Writing material for your route.

Original, independent practice guidance. CD IELTS Prep is not an official IELTS provider; confirm current booking and test-day requirements with your test centre.

Academic and General Training candidates both need careful listening, clear speaking, accurate reading, and controlled writing. The safest plan is still to choose the same test variant you booked, because the Reading material and Writing tasks are not interchangeable.

Keep your preparation labelled

  • Mark each study plan and saved result as Academic or General Training.
  • Use the correct Reading passages when measuring your raw score.
  • For Writing Task 1, practise the task style used by your chosen variant.
  • Share Listening and Speaking drills only when the skill being trained is genuinely the same.

Choose by purpose, then confirm

Your university, employer, professional body, or immigration pathway decides which result it accepts. Check that requirement directly before booking. A practice website can help you prepare, but it cannot choose the valid test for your application.

Common questions

Can I use Academic material if I booked General Training?

It may still build language ability, but it should not replace variant-specific Reading and Writing practice or be used as a like-for-like score comparison.

Does CD IELTS Prep produce an official result?

No. CD IELTS Prep results are practice estimates. Only an authorised test produces an official result.
