Computer-delivered IELTS is widely available across Canada, with some centres running sessions up to three times a day, seven days a week, and results in 3 to 5 days — sometimes around 48 hours. Content and marking are identical to paper; Speaking remains a face-to-face interview with an examiner.
Can you highlight and make notes on the computer test?
Yes. You can highlight text in the Reading passages and attach notes to your highlights, which is the closest equivalent to annotating a paper booklet. The habit worth building is restraint: highlight the specific sentence that answers a question, not the whole paragraph. A page of yellow tells you nothing on the second pass.
What you cannot do is spell-check. Writing has no spelling or grammar assistance of any kind, and Listening answers are typed straight into the box, so spelling errors that a paper transfer pass might have caught simply stand.

Which IELTS should Canadian candidates book?
Immigration routes — Express Entry, most Provincial Nominee streams, and the Post-Graduation Work Permit — require IELTS General Training, and your bands are read through Canadian Language Benchmark levels rather than used directly. University admission and nursing registration require IELTS Academic. If you are pursuing a professional licence and permanent residence at once, you will likely need both.
Whichever you book, Listening and Speaking are identical papers across Academic and General Training, so that half of your preparation transfers between the two tests.

Can I highlight text in computer-delivered IELTS?
Yes — you can highlight passages in Reading and attach notes to highlights. There is no spell-check anywhere in the test.
How long do computer-delivered IELTS results take in Canada?
Typically 3 to 5 days, and sometimes around 48 hours — considerably faster than the roughly 13 days paper takes.
Is the computer test accepted by IRCC?
Yes. IRCC accepts IELTS General Training results regardless of delivery format; the Test Report Form does not distinguish between them.
Do I lose the 10 minutes to transfer Listening answers?
Yes, and this is the biggest practical difference. You type answers directly during the test and get about two minutes at the end to check them, rather than ten minutes to copy them onto a separate sheet.
