Do you watch a lot of films?
Probably one or two a week, usually at the weekend. I'm not someone who'll watch anything and everything, though. I tend to read a few reviews first, because I hate spending two hours on something that turns out to be a letdown.
What kind of films do you enjoy?
I've got a soft spot for science fiction, especially films that make you think about where technology's heading. I also enjoy a good comedy, but it's surprisingly hard to find one that's genuinely funny rather than just loud.
Do you prefer watching films at home or at the cinema?
For big, visually impressive films, the cinema wins every time, because the sound and the size of the screen make a real difference. For anything quieter, though, I'd rather be at home on the sofa, where I can pause it and make a cup of tea.
What did you watch on TV when you were a child?
Mostly cartoons, and far too many of them. There was one about a group of talking animals running a farm that I was completely obsessed with. On Saturday evenings, my whole family would also sit down together to watch a quiz show.
Do you watch TV series as well as films?
Yes, if anything I watch more series than films now. The good ones have time to develop the characters properly. The danger is that I end up binge-watching a whole series in a single weekend and then feel slightly guilty about it.
Do you usually watch films alone or with other people?
It depends. For comedies, I much prefer watching with friends, since laughter's contagious. With science fiction, I'd rather watch on my own, because I like to concentrate and I get annoyed if people talk through the important bits.
Would you like to be in a film one day?
Not really, to be honest. I'd be far too self-conscious in front of a camera. I would find it fascinating to spend a day on a film set, though, just to see how much work goes into a single scene.
