What Multiple Choice (Single) looks like on screen
Each question has a stem and three options, A, B and C, with a round button beside each. You click while the recording plays, and it cannot be paused or replayed. The question numbers run along the bottom of the screen, and a question you flag for review is easy to find in the two minutes of checking time at the end of the test.
Where you will meet it
Multiple choice can be set in any of the four parts, and it is often used where speakers weigh up options or explain a view, as in Parts 2 and 3. The questions follow the order of the recording.
A routine for doing a set against the clock
Listening sets its own pace: the recording plays once, and there is time to read the questions before each part. The routine is about where your eyes and attention go:
- In the reading time before the part, read the stems first; they tell you what each stretch of the recording is about.
- Note what separates the three options — a day, a price, a reason — so you know which detail will decide it.
- While the speakers discuss a question, keep your eyes on its stem, not on all three options.
- Click when the speakers close the topic, then look straight at the next stem.
